The homepage shows the most recent stories, usually one or two posts a day, about various topics. The color scheme is simple yet with a fun skyline picture of Columbus at the top. There is a table of organized subtopics at the top also, making it easy for a site-goer to find what they are looking for. One can contribute their own opinion or review to the blog by simply hitting the submit button in the table.
Does the site have more posts that are advertising or more posts that are reviews? Could these reviews be an effective way of advertising though? How reliable is a community-driven blog?
The blog we have chosen is columbus underground which disscuses the different aspects of columbus. Anyone signed up with the website can comment. Should the website only allow people that live in columbus to comment about columbus? what do you find intresting about this webstite? Do you think the website should limit what people can submit?
ReplyDeleteI found this website to be extremely well organized with tons of pertinent information about the city. If I had never been to Columbus or was looking for something fun to do this would definitely be good place to turn to. One thing I found really interesting were the message boards. Anyone can post comments about the city. It seems to be a really good way to get people trying new events, activities and restaurants in the city. What aspects of this website make it good advertising for the city? Besides residents of Columbus, is there another targeted audience for this site? What do you think is the primary goal of this site?
ReplyDeleteThis blog can be a great tool for anyone living in columbus and especially to those who are new to the city such as freshmen at ohio state who are looking for something interesting to do. As soon as I began to inspect the site, I immediately found something that not only interested me but also the guys that I am living with next year. (Short North Annual Yard
ReplyDeleteSale) The easy to read and comprehend set up makes the blog very user friendly and is not overwhelming as some of the other blogs were.
How could this blog be improved?
ReplyDeleteHow does the color scheme and pictures make the readers feel about the city of Columbus?
I agree that this blog is definitely a tool to be used by anyone living in Columbus, especially Freshman at OSU. It is a great site for tourists and people who already live here. I honestly don't think that the blog needs any improvement. It captures most of what there is in Columbus (i.e. Short North). The color scheme helps to keep the readers involved in the advertisement and lets them know that Columbus is a lively place to be and visit! It's a perfect site for tourists and those of the Columbus community, as well. It's very appealing to readers.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the site does seem to have a bit of everything for everyone from yard sales to nightlife I feel as though freshman at osu would never look for a site like this. Personally I feel as though I find ideas of places to go through family and friends. I think the website is geared more towards people in their mid 20s and up that either recently moved to the columbus area and are looking for new attractions or are an older couple looking to spice up their weekly date night. The blog being driven by the community does seem to be reliable. Only the people of columbus are likely to comment and be honest about their opinions of the attractions.
ReplyDeleteThis blog is definitely organized and i like that on the left side of the page it shows all the evens thats going on. This gives you ideas on what to do in Columbus if you want to find something out of the ordinary to do. I agree with Leighann that the majority of people commenting on this page would be people from Columbus and have experienced these attractions. I know when i first looked at the page, the clip art of the tall buildings at the top of the page caught my eye. When you first looked at the page, what did you notice first?
ReplyDeleteI like this blog a lot. Growing up in Columbus, Ohio I thought I knew about many of the things going on here, but even I have found some new events and places that would be cool to attend. Like Meredith said in her presentation, if a business gets their information put on this site, it is great indirect advertisement! I also agree Leighann that people looking at these advertisements will be in upper 20's or 30's, and looking for nightlife and family events. Although, now that I know of it I might find myself here on a boring Columbus weekend.
ReplyDeleteThis blog is automatically my favorite because its all about Columbus, but i also really like it because it allows anyone and everyone to be part of it. The blog is well organized, reputable, and very welcoming to visitors of Columbus and residents of the capital city. The collage at the top of the page is a neat compilation of the best parts of the city, and the color scheme is nice and uniform. Like Anton, I also grew up in Columbus, and a lot of the subjects on this website are new to me. Great choice!
ReplyDeleteThis blog is very neat. All of the other blogs that we’ve been looking at have had ads from the larger companies, who are spread all over the United States as well as the world. In this blogs contains ads from the general area. This is nice to see that the smaller companies are able to find spots on the internet to keep their business out for people to see. To answer petrilla.8’s question about the color scheme, the majority of the colors are blue. I believe that they have it like this to make the reader think that Columbus is nice beautiful all the time. The blue is just about the same shade as the sky on a nice day. This blog would also be a good guide for someone that is visiting Columbus, because they would be able to find all of the events that are taking place during their time here. I really like this blog, this blog is certainly not like the other blogs that we’ve been looking at due to the fact that the content in this blog only relates to a relatively small amount or people compared to the others.
ReplyDeleteI like the picture of cartooned city image at the top side of the website. The picture can attract audiences interest at the fist sight of the home page and highlights the website tile "columbus underground" in an vividly. The category titles placed below the title part are well-organized and informative . It is easy to find the information people need. Compared to other blogs, most pictures used in this blogs are photos from their real experience. Otherwise, it is interesting to find that most authors used first person in narration. It feels like someone is telling your his personal experience. In this way, the blog gains more credibility and builds connection with readers. The informations and news contained in the blog are timely and useful. I will definitely use this blog to enrich my college life here in columbus.
ReplyDeleteI learned so much from this blog. I've lived in a suburb of Columbus for my entire life, and I never knew some of the stuff that is on the blog. The advertising on the site seem to be relevant to thing in Columbus. I really like the Columbus Underground's picture at the top of the page; the cartoon-ized Columbus skyline. I like how the ad separates topic, so it is easier to find what you are looking for.
ReplyDeleteI found that this is my favorite blog yet because it gives so much information about the relevance of columbus. The first thing that caught my eye was the cartoon at the top of the page of the buildings of columbus. To answer Shaw's question i dont think it should only be people from columbus to comment because you are going to only see feedback from local residents. I would like to see other people's comments from other cities or states and how they feel about columbus. It is always good to get feedback from other people so that you can improve on things or what is fun or unique to them. I would however change up the color scheme but overall i feel that this site was organized and easy for viewers to read.
ReplyDeleteI thought this blog was pretty cool. Since I'm out of state, I don't know as much about the city as someone thats instate, so the blog kinda catches me up on things so to speak. The blog really shows a lot of what goes on in the city, and just looking at the city itself its fairly small compared to cities like NYC or DC. The blog is well organized and shows that there really is plenty that goes on in the city.
ReplyDeleteWhat I liked so much about this site is that it is so community driven. Anything in the columbus area can advertised on this website and i think that it is a great was for local businesses and events to get recognized. The site really gets everyone involved in events that are happening in columbus. I think its cool having many of the different images in columbus.
